Southern Miss snapped an 11-game home losing streak in its victory against Alcorn State in Week 2, while it has played six true freshmen and eight redshirt freshmen through the first two contests.  The Golden Eagles will need to cause the Crimson Tide to make some mistakes in order to cover this number on the college football odds page, but they’ve managed to force multiple turnovers in their last three games dating back to last season.  The program is 15-62-1 SU against ranked opponents—dropping its last three contests in that situation.

The Golden Eagles are 6-34-2 all-time against the Crimson Tide, including a 2-18-1 mark when playing in Tuscaloosa.  Southern Miss returned 57.4 percent of its total offense from a season ago, with sophomore quarterback Nike Mullens being one of the main contributors due to playing the final six games of the 2013 campaign.  The school is 34-108-3 all-time against Southeastern Conference opponents.

Alabama has out-gained Florida Atlantic and West Virginia 1,158-538 in total yards in capturing its first two games, which is important to consider when making your Week 3 college football picks.  The Crimson Tide used both Jake Coker and Blake Sims under center last time out, with each player passing for over 200 yards.  Both of those players have some major players to target downfield, including wide receiver Amari Cooper, who had 45 grabs for 736 yards last season.  He leads the nation in receptions and receiving yards this year.  Alabama is 9-0 SU and 2-6-1 ATS as favorites of 31 or more points since 2012.

The Crimson Tide also have one of the more talented running back duos in the country, with Derrick Henry averaging 6.2 yards per carry, while T.J. Yeldon is averaging 5.6 yards per touch.  Alabama is 62-1 since the start of the 2008 season when rushing for at least 140 yards.  From a special teams standpoint, head coach Nick Saban has been very pleased in the kicking game, with sophomore Adam Griffith being perfect on six field goal attempts.

Sports bettors will likely back the Golden Eagles due to the Crimson Tide being 4-7 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games.
