NL Wild Card—Who Will It Be?

It’s decided that the Mets will win the NL East. The rest, including the Wild Card, is up in the air. No less than 8 NL clubs still have a decent chance of winning the Wild Card.

The Padres presently lead the Wild Card by 2.5 games over both the Phillies and the Marlins, 3 games over the Giants, 4 over the Reds and 4.5 over the Astros. The Braves and the Diamondbacks are 6.5 and 7.5 out respectively.

When you figure that the Dodgers only lead the West by 1.5 games and the Cardinals are 6 up in the Central, it’s clear that the National League is very volatile. Of the eight teams within 8 games of the Wild Card, those playing the most consistent ball are the Marlins, Astros and Padres. The Dodgers and Cards are both playing well as leaders in the West and Central divisions, respectively.
