Brees finished with a 131.3 passer rating in the game, but even with Willie Snead and Brandin Cooks both catching for a combined 315 yards and three TDs, it was not enough to slow the Raiders who amassed 319 passing yards and 167 rushing yards of their own. The Saints were fairly ineffective on the ground, with Mark Ingram going for 58 yards on 12 carries, and Cooks rushing once for 11 yards.

The Saints did not get a rushing TD, and had only two runs longer than 10-yards in the game. Brees and Snead also both fumbled, and Brees’ was lost. The Saints defense did not record a sack and had just four tackles for loss. Marcus Murphy returned five kicks for 86 yards with a long of 26-yards, and he returned two punts for 11 yards. Kicker Will Lutz hit just two of four FGA, while punter Thomas Forested averaged 47.5 yards per punt on his two attempts.

The 37 year old Brees is now in his 16th season, but he seems to be as good as ever. It is a matter f the Saints getting more from their defense, because this is a QB capable of hanging points on the board. Brees has thrown for 4,800 yards or more in the past five NFL seasons and has posted a 96.0 passer rating over his career. He averaged 10.07 yards per completion in Week 1, and last season he was good for 7.77 yards per attempt while throwing 32 TD passes to just 11 INTs.

The New York Giants were week 1 winners over the Dallas Cowboys, winning 20-19 as Eli Manning hit Victor Cruz for the go-ahead score as one of his three TDs. Manning threw 19 of 28 for 207 yards, but he was picked once and suffered two sacks. His passer rating was 110.3, and Odell Beckham had 73 yards on four catches, including a long play of 45-yards.

Sterling Shepard had three catches on four targets for 43 yards, while Cruz had the TD and 34 yards on four catches. Rashad Jennings rushed 18 times for 75 yards, and Shane Vereen was good for 38 yards on six attempts. The Giants averaged 4.7 yards per attempt, but rushed just 24 times in the game.

The Giants defense did not record any sacks and had just two tackles for loss. Jonathan Casillas had 11 tackles, seven solo, and Landon Collins, Jason Pierre-Paul and Nat Berhe all had six tackles as well. Dwayne Harris returned two kicks for 46 yards, and he had one punt return for 17 yards. Brad Wing punted five times for an average of 51.4 yards while three were touchbacks with a long of 60-yards.

Manning is now 35 years old and is getting up there in age, like Brees. He is in his 13th NFL season and last year threw for 4,436 yards while completing 62.6 percent of his passes with a 7.18 yards per attempt average. He has posted a passer rating 90 or higher in three of the past five seasons, and last year he threw 35 TD passes with 14 interceptions. Through week 1, that ratio is 3:1, which will look to be similar this season in all likelihood.
