NFL- QB Brady in Trouble

No, not the New England Patriot quarterback Tom Brady, but the former Notre Dame and as-of-yet unsigned Cleveland Brown QB Brady Quinn. Quinn has now missed eight days of training camp due to contract issues and that is not good for Quinn or for his team.

It was supposed to be a three-way battle to see who would be the starting QB for head coach Romeo Crennel, who is under a lot of pressure to produce a winner. Quinn, who many thought would be a 2007 top-ten draft pick ended up 22nd, and is now losing favor with the Browns.

Crennel noted that, “We know that Brady is a good talent. That’s why we chose him. (However) the longer he’s out, the tougher that becomes. Crennel was referring to the fact that Quinn has missed a lot of important basic work that’s so important in helping ensure a player performs well during the season. Crennel said, “He’s missed all that fundamental work. The foundation has to be laid. It’s hard to catch up on that.

The Browns have not been able to make it a done deal with Quinn via his agent Tom Condon. Browns’ GM Phil Savage was hoping to get the contract settled soon but is not optimistic. The problems in the contract include incentives and salary increases in the fourth and fifth years of Quinn’s tenure.

Presently, it’s a two-man race for QB between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson. Frye has been in the NFL for two years and played in 13 games for the Browns in 2006. He threw 10 touchdowns, 17 interceptions and was sacked 44 times last season. He completed 64.1% of his throws for 2,454 yards and a rating of 72.0.

Derek Anderson, who s 24 years old and one-year younger than Frye, played in five games in 2006, which was his first season. He completed 56.4% of his passes, throwing five touchdowns and eight interceptions. He had a rating of 63.1.

I’m banking on Frye getting the starting position. I think if Quinn were involved, he’d have a good shot at it. Right now, though, with all that’s not happened with the guy, it would be a miracle if he started any part of the season.
