The Houston Texas began its 2018 season in rough fashion, with a 20-27 loss on the road to the New England Patriots. The Texans stay on the road in Week 2, traveling to face the Tennessee Titans as 2.5-point favorites at Noon (CT) on CBS. The over/under is set at 43 points according to NFL oddsmaker at bookmaker 5dimes.

Houston lost to New England as Tom Brady threw for 277 yards and three TDs. Brady was 26 of 39, with 123 of his 277 total yards being caught by the hands of Rob Gronkowski, who caught 7 of 8 targeted passes and scored the go-ahead touchdown. Houston starting QB Deshaun Watson struggled, throwing 17 of 34 for 176 yards with one TD, one interception and three sacks for a total lossage of 18 yards.

Running back Lamar Miller rushed 20 times for 98 yards, and Watson managed 40 yards of his own on eight attempts, but only Alfred Blue (36 yards) rushed for a TD, and Houston was out-gained in yardage by a count of 389 to 325. Houston stayed in the game against the Patriots, but Brady’s heroics were on time and as usual, he bailed out New England to avoid an opening home loss for the Pats.

The Tennessee Titans also began its season with a loss, falling 20-27 on the road to the Miami Dolphins. Tennessee is hoping a return to Nashville helps its chances as 2.5-point dogs this week. The Titans mixed it up at QB with Blaine Gabbert starting and throwing 11 of 22 for 117 yards and an interception, and phenom Marcus Mariota backed him up with 9 of 16 passing for 103 yards and two INTs. Corey Davis had six catches for 62 yards, and Delanie Walker caught four for 52 yards, but the costly interceptions prevented Tennessee from making its impact in this one.

Running back Dion Lewis did score a TD and rush for 75 of Tennessee’s 116 rushing yards, but it received eight of its 20 points from kicker Ryan Succop, including a 53-yard field goal. Tennessee will have to cut down on the miscues and settle its quarterback position, though Mariota is the starter. The Titans did get a good punting display from Brett Kern, who booted four for 44.8 yards on average including a long of 55-yards and four of the five pinned within the 20.
