The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 4-0 ATS as underdogs this season

Notre Dame has dropped back-to-back games, including a 74-69 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as one-point road favorites last Saturday, while going OVER the betting total for a fourth consecutive contest.  The Fighting Irish are led by senior point guard Eric Atkins, who is averaging 18.5 points over his last five games, which is important to consider when making your NCAA basketball picks.  He was named ACC Player of the Week in consecutive weeks (Dec. 30 and Jan. 6).  Notre Dame is 2-2 SU and 4-0 ATS as an underdog this season.

The Irish also have another option on the offensive end in senior center Garrick Sherman, who has scored in double-figures in each of the last 13 games, which can’t be ignored when looking over the NCAA basketball lines.  He is shooting a team-best 50.3 percent from the field and 75 percent from the charity stripe.  The program rans fourth nationally and second in the ACC with a 1.72 assist-to-turnover ratio, with Atkins’ play being a major reason.

Maryland is also mired in a two-game losing streak, which includes an 85-61 setback to the Florida State Seminoles as 6.5-point road underdogs Sunday, while going OVER the betting total in each of those affairs.  The Terrapins have won eight of their last 11 conference home games, with the winning margin being an average of 13.5 points in the victories.  The program has compiled a perfect 8-0 SU record this season when holding foes under 70 points.  Maryland is 3-0 SU and 2-0-1 ATS as home favorites of 3.5 to 6 points the last two-plus seasons.

The Terrapins have five players averaging double-figure scoring totals at home, with Jake Layman leading the way with 15.4 points on 50 percent shooting.  Maryland will need to do a better job defending the arc, as it ranks 305th in the country in that all-important statistical category, especially with its opponent knocking down 37.7 percent of its shots from that area.

Sports bettors will likely play the total, as the UNDER is 43-18-1 ATS in the Terrapins’ last 62 Wednesday games.
