NASCAR Betting: Irwin Tools Night Race

Denny Hamlin is among the favorites in this short track event

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will begin Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, a 533 mile oval that is located in Tennessee. While Kyle Busch is the odds on favorite, there are several other drivers that have great shots at winning this won.

Kurt Busch has swept both races at Bristol in 2009. Busch is 1st in average finish (5.7) and also is first for laps led with 900. Busch has already won the Nationwide and Truck Series at Bristol this week and there have only been two other drivers besides Busch. to have a win in all three of NASCAR’s top divisions at the track.

This race is always one of the more exciting ones. The spring race was won by Jimmie Johnson, and everyone who’s driven at Bristol knows that the short half mile track can be difficult for drivers to adjust to. The strategy employed by drivers at Bristol can vary, but it seems that while being fast is important, it is equally as important to know when to ease back. It is known as the “World’s fastest half mile” and it has been a featured race for the last 50 years now.

Johnson’s insight into the track makes him a favorite among bettors and he is at 13/2 odds.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. (30/1) finished 7th in the spring race, but looked good for most of the race. Jeff Gordon (12/1) and Mark Martin (30/1) have also turned in good performances of late and are among the favorites.

Kurt Busch is also worth a look at 11/1 odds. He has been in the top 5 at Bristol with regularity and is known to be a good short track racer. Busch has won the concrete five mile five times and could be in for his sixth if he can qualify well and get a decent starting slot.

Both Carl Edwards (8/1) and Greg Biffle (22/1) have done well on this track and should be near the top of the field.

It can be expected that Denny Hamlin (12/1), Kurt Busch (11/1), and Kevin Harvick (12/1) all push for the win, but there will be several just driving strategically to attempt to get a spot in the Chase. Hamlin should have a lot of confidence after finishing 2nd last week and is a great value pick at 12/1 odds.
