Oakland has dropped the first two games of this series—scoring just a single run in both losing efforts.  The Athletics need someone to break out offensively, considering numerous players are mired in terrible slumps, including utility infielder Alberto Callaspo going 1 for 27 since going 3 for 3 against tonight’s opposing starter earlier this month.  Oakland is 1-5 as a road underdog of +100 to +125 this season, with the UNDER going 3-1-2 in that situation.

Athletics starting pitcher Tommy Milone (3-3, 3.68 ERA) has led the franchise to four consecutive victories, but he hasn’t factored into the decision in his last two trips to the mound, including a 4-3 road victory over the Baltimore Orioles last week.  The left-hander is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in six road outings—serving up six home runs in 33.1 combined frames.  Milone has compiled a 2-0 record and 2.96 ERA in his last four efforts in this rivalry.

Los Angeles has won five games in a row, including a 2-1 victory over Oakland as +108 home underdogs Tuesday, while going UNDER the betting total for a third consecutive contest.  The Angels are 6-21 when scoring three runs or fewer and 30-7 when scoring four or more.  Offensively, the team is being led by outfielder Mike Trout, who is batting .386 with 17 RBIs in his last 16 games.  Los Angeles is 14-4 at home with a betting total of 8 to 8.5.

Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver (7-4, 3.31 ERA) has come away with a victory in three of his last four trips to the mound, including a 8-4 home win over the Chicago White Sox last time out.  The right-hander is 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA in seven home outings, with opposing hitters batting .195 against him.  Weaver had been 8-1 with a 0.87 ERA in his previous 11 efforts versus the Athletics until giving up season highs of six runs and 11 hits in a 6-3 defeat in Oakland on June 1.

Sports bettors will likely back the Angels due to 39-13 record in Weaver’s last 52 home starts.
