MLB- Hargrove Resigns

Mike Hargrove has managed the Indians, taking them to two World Series (1995 and 1997), the Baltimore Orioles and presently the Seattle Mariners. Now in the midst if his 16th season, Hargrove has announced that he is resigning. The Mariners are presently enjoying seven-game winning streak and have gone 9- 1 in their last 10 games. They have gained ground (3 games) on the division leading LA Angels and are now in second place only 4.5 games back.

After noting that the team has always given 100% for him, Hargrove then said, “Recently I’ve found that I’ve had to work harder to give that same commitment to my bosses, players and coaches and that’s not right His voice then trembled and the veteran coach began tearing up.

After a few seconds filled with hundreds of shutter snaps as the media took photo after photo, Hargrove cleared his throat and said, “They deserve better, they’re good people. There’s a good thing going on here… and…ah… it’s time for me to leave.

Hargrove pointed to a lack of passion on his part that led to his resignation. Seattle is 44- 33. The manager will coach the Sunday game and then depart. Bench coach John McLaren will take over and manage his first game on Monday.

The only other managerial change thus far this year in the majors was in Baltimore as Sam Perlozzo was relieved of his duties by the Orioles’ management, as the club was involved in an eight-game losing streak. Baltimore bullpen coach, Dave Trembley.

There have been rumors off and on that NY Yankee manager Joe Torre is in a vulnerable position, although that has only been hinted at. The Yanks are 37- 41, 11.4 games behind the Red Sox and over their past 10 games two and eight.

There must be more about the Hargrove situation so check it out. Seattle plays second-place East division club Toronto today. It will be interesting to see how the team reacts to their manager’s decision during the next week.
