Carlos Zambrano pitched a solid game today, beating the division rival Milwaukee Brewers 6- 2. Zambrano struck out nine—a season high—and also hit two singles. He improved his record to 6- 5.
In his last start, Zambrano allowed a career-high 13 hits against the Atlanta Braves and got into a dugout fight with catcher Michael Barrett. The fistfight continued in the clubhouse. Barrett received a cut across his lip that required stitches.
Back-up catcher Koyle Hill caught the game as Barrett was given the day off after catching Tuesday night’s game.
Zambrano noted that he felt terrible about the incident and that he and Barrett had a tearful make-up meeting where they forgave each other and called one another “brother.
Meanwhile, skipper Lou Pinella finished up his four-game suspension today. He told the media that there’s still plenty of time for his team to capture the division but that the team had to “stabilize itself.
The Brewers Jeff Suppan (7- 6) lost. The Brewers are in first-place in the NL Central, 6.5 games ahead of the Cubs and 5 ahead of the Cards, who have won three-in-a-row.
