NAVY

Navy last defeated Tulane 41-38, its closest call of the season in any victory. In the three weeks prior it defeated South Florida, Tulsa, and Air Force. The Midshipmen have the nation’s top rush offense, generating 350.7 yards per game on the ground. It ranks near the bottom in passing with just 89.4 yards per game. The Midshipmen still pack a lot of punch scoring 37.9 points per game while possessing a defense that limits its opponents to just 19.3 per, good for a point differential of + 18.2.

Navy quarterback Jacoby Brissett has thrown for 1,590 yards at a 64.5 percent clip with 14 touchdown passes and just three interceptions. Brissett ranks No. 3 in rushing yards with 106 yards on 35 attempts and a touchdown. Lead-rusher Marlon Mack has 138 attempts for 590 yards and three touchdowns, while No. 2 back Jordan Wilkins has 23 attempts for 139 yards (though he leads the team with 6.0 yards-per-carry). The wide receivers are led by T.Y. Hilton’s 32 catches for 360 yards and five touchdowns. Zach Pascal has caught 14 passes and three touchdowns, while the tight ends Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle have combined for 37 catches and over 440 yards between them.

UCONN

Connecticut is 2-6 on the season but is coming off a rare victory as it defeated UMass 56-35 last outing. Jack Zergiotis threw 18 of 27 for 198 yards and a touchdown, though he did throw an interception. He rushed just once for five yards.

Kevin Mensah, though, was dominant. He rushed 19 times for 164 yards and five touchdowns. Art Tompkins added another 135 yards and a TD.

The Huskies rushed 41 times in the game for 326 yards, averaging eight yards-per-carry. Cameron Ross led the receivers with nine catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. Jay Rose had two catches for 21 yards and a TD. The Huskies completed 19 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns. The win was Connecticut’s first road win of the season after losing its first three away games.

Mensah and Thompkins have had good seasons despite the losing record. Mensah has 696 yards and nine touchdowns and a 4.6 yard-per-carry average. Thompkins has 80 attempts for 375 yards and two touchdowns. Ross has also had a great year at WR, with his 40 total catches for 478 yards and two touchdowns. UConn has scored 12 rushing touchdowns and nine via the pass this season.
