The coaches have finished voting and the votes have been tailed, and 28 of the 63 first place votes go to Ohio State making them the #1 team in america. Coming off of a 10-2 season and a victory over Notre Dame in the fiesta bowl, the Buckeyes have the top ranking in the first preseason USA Today coaches poll despite the fact they only return 2 starters from their defense that was 5th in the country overall holding opponents to just 15.3 points per game. Ohio State’s defense also had the number 1 overall rush defense holding foes to under 75 yards per game.

Bill Parcells seems to run in four-year cycles. In his fourth consecutive year coaching the same team, he always ends up in the Super Bowl. (You must know where this is going.) In his fourth year with the Giants (1986), he coached the team to a championship win. Four years later, with that same team, he captured another Lombardi Trophy. In his fourth season with the Patriots, he was coaching in the big game again (this time he lost).

Brett Favre said yesterday that this year’s Packer’s team is the most talented he’s ever seen. That has folks buzzing. But the real story is not Favre’s comment on “talent.� It’s his later statements.

Favre said to reporters, “My arm feels great. The rest of my body feels like I’ve been playing for 16 years. I probably walk around and run around like an old man. My ankles and my feet and hips all bother me. I can still play.�
