Northwestern has won three games in a row, including a 20-14 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers as 7.5-point home underdogs last Saturday, while going UNDER the betting total for a fifth consecutive time to open up the season.  The Wildcats are searching for their first 3-0 start to a Big Ten Conference campaign since 2000, which can’t be ignored when making your Week 7 college football betting picks.  Northwestern is 5-8 SU and 8-5 ATS as underdogs the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 9-4 in that situation.

The Wildcats have been getting after opponents with their stop unit, which is important to consider when looking over the college football odds page, as they rank third in the conference and 14th nationally in allowing 16.2 points per game.  Northwestern and Minnesota are tied with one another for second in the Big Ten with a plus-six turnover margin, which is why it’s important for true freshman running back Justin Jackson to take care of the football after his 162-yard performance last week.

Minnesota has won back-to-back games, including a 30-14 victory over the Michigan Wolverines as 10-point road underdogs on Sept. 27, as it managed to out-gain each of its last two opponents by a triple-digit margin.  The Golden Gophers are 51-33-5 SU all-time in this series, but they’ve dropped both previous meetings at TCF Bank Stadium.  The program has won five of its last seven conference games.

The Golden Gophers have also played great defense of late, as they’ve allowed just 27 points in their last 2.5 games, which is far different than the 68 figure it surrendered in its first 10 quarters of action.  Minnesota is known to try to win the ground battle, as it has rushed the ball 234 times and passed 88 times during the 2014 campaign, with 11 of its 15 offensive touchdowns coming on the ground.

Sports bettors will likely back the Wildcats due to the road team being 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings in this rivalry.
