Baylor leads the FBS in averaging 59.3 points and 654.3 yards per game, which is significant when looking over the Week 5 college football odds page, while its defense is giving up just 9.0 points per contest.  The Bears are third nationally in throwing for 416 yards per game—made possible by averaging 17.58 yards per completion.  The all-time series between these two squads is tied at 6-6, with Baylor looking for its first win in Ames since 2005.

The Bears have scored 30-plus points in 32 of their last 35 games, which is important to consider when making your college football predictions, while they’ve posted 400 or more yards in 42 of their last 43 contests—that marks leads all teams.  Baylor has tallied a 17-4 SU record in September under head coach Art Briles, while it has converted 59.2 percent of its third-down opportunities in 2014.  Quarterback Bryce Petty is the main player to watch in this matchup, as he’s tossed a touchdown in 15 straight games.

Iowa State snapped a two-game losing streak by picking up a 20-17 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes as 13.5-point road underdogs on Sept. 13, as it won the statistical battle by 62 yards.  The Cyclones are capable of making a play with their special teams unit, as Jarvis West ranks first nationally in averaging 29.3 yards per punt return.  The school has dropped its last eight games versus ranked opponents, while it has compiled a 4-20 SU record in that situation under head coach Paul Rhoads.  Iowa State is 4-11 SU and 6-8 ATS at home the last two-plus seasons.

The Cyclones defense has improved since the start of the season, as it allowed 506 yards in its season opener against South Dakota State, but it limited their in-state rivals to just 275 yards.  With seven sacks through three affairs, Iowa State is on pace to have its best sack total in years.  Defensive coordinator Wally Burnham’s units have also forced 20-plus turnovers in his first five seasons.

Sports bettors will likely back the Cyclones due to the home team covering the last five meetings in this rivalry.
