Baylor Bears QB Robert Griffin III is getting plenty of publicity due to his gaudy early-season numbers

Baylor has opened the year with a 3-0 record and will be aiming to start a season 4-0 for the first time since the 1991 season.  The Bears will also be after its first conference-opening road win since 1995.  All of the focus surrounding this program is centered around Heisman Trophy candidate Robert Griffin III, who has completed a national-leading 85.4 percent of his passes.  He has also thrown more touchdowns than interceptions.  “I can’t think of anyone that presents the problems Robert does,” commented Wildcats head coach Bill Snyder.  “Robert might be the best quarterback in football, exclusive of what level.”  Baylor is 2-0 ATS as a road favorite the last two-plus years and 13-4 ATS in its last 17 opportunities in the role.

The Bears have tallied an 8-18-1 all-time mark when playing on ABC, including an 0-4 record in Big 12 Conference games.  Baylor is currently second nationally in total offense, seventh in passing and 15th in rushing.  In 29 offensive possessions, the team has punted just five times.  All very impressive numbers when finding that the program has scored 40-plus points in three consecutive games for the first time in its history.  Baylor will be looking to land a knockout blow early in Manhattan, outscoring opponents by a 100-40 margin in the first half this year.

Kansas State also comes in with a perfect mark after three games this season and tallied a 28-24 win over Miami as 12.5-point road underdogs last week.  The Wildcats are starting to gain some recognition in the polls, grabbing some votes, which has Snyder happy about the early results.  “I’m proud of them for a lot of reasons,” he stated at practice this week.  The program should be confident in the fact of posting a 113-26-1 record when playing at Bill Snyder Family Stadium over the past 20-plus years.  Kansas State will also be looking for a fast start, posting a 129-27 record when scoring first since 1990.

The Wildcats defense has been a topic of discussion early on, ranking among the top three in the conference in all five major defensive categories.  Kansas State will be relying heavily on sophomore John Hubert, who carried the ball 18 times for 166 yards last week.  He will be starting against his hometown team, which will be added motivation to perform well in marquee game.  With his performance last week, he became the school’s first back not named Daniel Thomas to rush for 100 yards since Oct. 11, 2008.

Bettors will likely back the Wildcats due to their 10-4 ATS mark in conference games, while the Bears are 1-4 ATS in the same situation.
