Eastern Michigan hits the road for the third consecutive week, as it looks to bounce back from a 17-3 setback to Old Dominion as 20.5-point underdogs, while losing the statistical battle in its first three contests of the 2014 campaign.  Eagles head coach Chris Creighton has stated that senior quarterback Rob Bolden will get the start in this matchup, which is important to consider when making your Week 4 college football picks, as he’s the third such player to start under center.  Eastern Michigan is 0-7 SU and 2-5 ATS as road underdogs of 21.5 or more points since 2012.

The Eagles have dropped all nine previous meetings in this series, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college football odds page, especially since they face a quarterback that ranks third in the Big Ten Conference and 15th nationally in averaging 314 passing yards per game.  Eastern Michigan has allowed 211 rushing yards per game this season, while it has dropped nine straight and 19 of 21 true road games.

Michigan State has compiled a 49-19 record in games played against non-conference opponents since 1999, including a 26-11 mark under current head coach Mark Dantonio.  The Spartans have won their last eight games at Spartan Stadium while they’ve captured 37 of their 43 all-time meetings against current members of the Mid-American Conference.  Offensively, quarterback Connor Cook is off to a tremendous start, as he’s completed 64 percent of his passes for 10 touchdowns and four interceptions in his last four games.  Michigan State is 16-5 SU and 9-12 ATS as favorites over the last two-plus seasons.

The Spartans will look to develop a consistent run game in this affair, as they gained just 123 yards on the ground in their 46-27 road defeat to Oregon in Week 2.  Michigan State needs to basically run the table to potentially earn a spot in college football’s four-team playoff at the end of the year.

Sports bettors will likely back the Eagles due to the Spartans being 4-11 ATS in their last 15 home games.
