Texas A&M will be opening a season versus a conference opponent on the road for the first time ever, which is important to consider when making your Week 1 college football picks, as it prepares to play the first live college football game on the SEC Network.  The Aggies are 10-2 SU in games away from Kyle Field under head coach Kevin Sumlin.  Based on the returning starters, it’s pretty clear that the offensive line will be the main strength for this program heading into the 2014 campaign, especially with the departure of quarterback Johnny Manziel.

The Aggies will send out Kenny Hill to start the season under center, as he appeared in four games as a reserve behind Matt Joeckel and Manziel in 2013.  Sumlin has been successful in lid-lifters with a 5-1 record at Houston and Texas A&M.  In 26 games under his direction, the team has scored at least 14 first-quarter points 14 times, while putting the first points on the board in 23 of those opportunities.

South Carolina has won 14 consecutive season-opening games, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college football odds page, especially since it has produced a perfect 9-0 mark with Steve Spurrier on the sidelines.  The Gamecocks have won all seven of their season openers on Thursdays under the Head Ball Coach.  It’s still important to point out that the program has never faced Texas A&M.

The Gamecocks have put together three-straight 11-win seasons, while their 42 victories over the past four campaigns have produced a school record.  South Carolina will put the nation’s longest active home winning streak on the line at Williams-Brice Stadium, as it has proven victorious in 18 consecutive affairs in that situation.  The squad returns 78 percent of its rushing yards, 26 percent of its passing yards and 75 percent of its receiving yards from a year ago.

Sports bettors will likely back the Gamecocks due to their 15-11 ATS record over the last two-plus seasons.
