Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Dennis Johnson, who will forever be remembered by Celtics fans and many other basketball enthusiasts, died of cardiac arrest yesterday. There’s an irony that Johnson, know as DJ, died during the NBA trade deadline since many consider the trade Boston made for Johnson was, as former Boston teammate Danny Ainge, now the Celtics’ executive director of basketball operations noted to ESPN, “one of the greatest Celtic acquisitions of all time.â€? NBA Trade Deadline Approaching—No Kidd(ing)

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

The rumors abound regarding potential NBA trade as the deadline of February 22 at 3 pm ET is less than one day away. There are major problems involved in any big NBA trade. Salary cap restrictions, exceptions and exemptions help make scenarios extremely complicated, huge salaries don’t help and a paucity of big name talent makes things tight. If you’re looking to do something a lot more simple than trying to understand all of the ramifications of any of the potential team-altering trades then why don’t you do your 2006 taxes (long form) while taking the test for Mensa and studying quantum physics. The Louisville Cardinals (9-4 Big East, 19- 8 overall) and Vanderbilt Commodores (8- 4 SEC- East, 24- 3 overall) are nationally ranked at twenty and seventeen respectively. The Cards are in third-place in the Big East and Vandy is in second in the SEC-East. NFC Championship—Weather Evens Playing Field

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

So, I admit it—I am preoccupied with the weather for the Saints- Bears game on Sunday. For one thing, I live in New England where the weather tends to be difficult to predict and very fickle (winter finally got her a few days ago). Second, I’ve seen the weather affect a lot of football games (remember not that long ago—the Snow Bowl?). And, finally, the Pats and Colts are playing in a dome, so the New Orleans- Chicago game is the only one on the docket where the weather will be a factor.

Weather or not, Will the Saints Brees by the Bears?

Friday, January 19th, 2007

That’s the question burning in my brain after having considered the offensive stats of both teams, comparing Brees to Grossman and looking at both defenses. After careful consideration the lines have changed a bit with Chicago no only a 2 to 2.5-point favorite (the home field advantage is 3 points). (more…)
