This is a closely matched, crucial game. Both the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears are knotted up at 5-3 in the NFC North, and NFL oddsmakers at 5dimes find this match to be too close to call, rendering the game a “pick ’em” between these two talented teams.

The Bears are expecting to get a boost from the return of QB Jay Cutler. The Bears were able to win 27-20 over Green Bay with reserve Josh McCown handling the duties. The Bears have been great at generating offense this season with either QB, and are averaging 30 points per game this season (second in the NFL) while amassing 377 yards per contest.

A large reason for the improvement has been a better offensive line, as Cutler and McCown have been sacked just 12 times combined. The added time is resulting in better throws and the Bears are versatile offensively. The team ranks 14th in passing yardage (256 per game) and 13th in rush offense (120 per game).

Chicago has not done so well defensively, though, allowing 381.1 yards per game and the Bears have allowed 30 or more points four times in six games this season.

Detroit will be a tough cover, too. Matt Stafford is one of the league’s best QBs and the Lions rank 2nd in the NFL in pass yardage behind his arm (317 yards per game). Stafford has thrown for 2,617 yards with a 62.4 percent completion ratio and he’s thrown 16 TDs to his six interceptions.

Reggie Bush has been a welcomed addition offensively, bringing 4.4 yard per carry averages and 518 season rushing yards to the table. Bush also has received for an additional 335 yards, and the Bears will have a tough time contending with the diminutive playmaker. Joique Bell has been a good dual-feature back, as well, with 236 rushing yards and 296 passing yards on the season.
