The Terrapins have won two of their last three on the strength of a defense which ranks 31st in the nation in points surrendered (20.3), and they haven’t allowed three touchdowns or more since their 31-21 loss to then-No. 8 West Virginia on September 22nd. Last week, they held a high powered NC State offense to 20 points, but struggled to produce points of their own, falling 20-18.

The Terrapins offense has generated only 21.3 points per game due to a pass offense that ranks near the bottom at 204.7 yards per game (89th) and a rush offense which is even worse, offering only 90.6 yards per game (118th in the nation).

No Terrapins running back has more than 300 yards and their QB, Perry Hills, has been sacked 25 times and thrown seven interceptions. Those offensive deficiencies help account for why college football oddsmakers have set the line three points in favor of the home team Boston College.

The 1-6 Eagles haven’t had an easy going. They opened the season with a loss to Miami (FL), and came back against a weak Maine team to win in week two. Since then, they have dropped five straight, two of which were to ranked opponents.

They haven’t been particularly close in any of them, so this game against Maryland on ESPN3 provides some respite among a tough schedule. They’ll face ACC rival Wake Forest next week before taking on No. 5 ranked Notre Dame. Closing the season against Virginia Tech and NC State will provide further challenges for the Eagles.

Their passing offense is impressive, producing 278 yards per game. It is behind the arm of junior QB Chase Rettig, who has thrown for 1,912 yards this season with 13 touchdowns. He’s improved on his junior year, and boasts a QB rating of 130.5, averaging 7.33 yards per attempt. He hasn’t done much rushing the ball, with all rushing yardage negative, but his arm has been the strength of the BC attack. Rettig should have himself a big game against Maryland, though the Terrapins defense has proven tough.

At the time of issue (7 AM game day) 63.7 percent of bettors were picking underdog Maryland to cover the spread, while 73.2 percent of bettors were choosing the UNDER of 46.
