NBA Southwest and the New Orleans Hornets

Prior to the All-Star break, the New Orleans Hornets sat atop the NBA’s Southwest Division. Since that time they’ve dropped down to second and the refurbished Spurs and Mavericks are both on rolls.

NBA Rookies

Here’s the skinny. There are two rookies in the NBA who look to be making a difference-Kevin Durant and Al Horford. Durant, the Seattle Sonics’ small forward, and Horford, the Atlanta center, have both made their marks and been difference makers in the NBA.

Tennessee and Memphis Match Up this Saturday

It’s number one playing number two in college basketball this Saturday and the # 2 Tennessee Volunteers travel from Knoxville to battle the #1 and undefeated Memphis Tigers at their home court. Memphis (12-0, 26- 1) sits atop Conference-USA, while Tennessee (11- 1, 24- 2) is first in the SEC.

Latest Loss by Duke is a Wake Up Call

This past week the Duke Blue Devils, then ranked second in the nation, were shocked by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. In a hellacious battle, the Demons beat the Devils 86- 73, and with that Duke fell to number five in the country with a 22-2 record overall and a 10- 1 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

The New Orleans Hornets are Hot

The Hornets have certainly turned it around. Last season, the team won 39 and lost 43 finishing 28 games out of first-place and missing the playoffs. Now at the All Star Break, the Hornets are 36 and 15, sitting on top of the Southwest Conference and vying for top spot in the West.

Super Bowl New York Versus New England

Finally, the big game is almost here. We are on the cusp of finally seeing if the New England Patriots, who seem to have become the New York Yankees of the NFL, can have a perfect season and post season or if the New York Giants will pull a Partiot-like Super Bowl upset.
