While all 119 Division I teams enter the 2006 season with fresh records and on equal footing with championship desires, the linesman at Pinnacle Sportsbook believe only a small number of teams stand any realistic chance of winning the BCS Championship Game on January 8th.
In what’s definitely a shocker, the West Virginia Mountaineers are currently a +650 favorite to win the national championship mainly because of their relatively soft schedule Notre Dame is a slight underdog to capture their 14th national title at +700 odds, followed by the number 1 ranked team in the poll Ohio State at +750. Even though USC has lost the big 3 Leinart, Bush, and White, USC has been installed as a +800 underdog to win the national crown. Pinnacle must believe that even though they lost all that talent, the Trojans will not miss a beat. Rounding out the top 5 are the Florida Gators lead by quaterback Chris Leak at +1000.

With the 2006 College football Season opening up on Thursday we have noted some significant happenings that occurred over the off season in addition to what to look for in the 2006 campaign. Remember to jump on board for Maddux Sports’Â Winning College football picks this season.
Head coaches will have one opportunity to challenge an official’s call, as long as his team has a timeout remaining. Every close play is theoretically able to be reviewed by the refs, so the only time a coach is expected to challenge is if the offense is in hurry-up mode.

Compare these two– Terrell Owens and David Ortiz. I don’t mean so much as players who can and/or do produce, although that figures into it. I mean as people who have a job to do.

Terrell Owens was just recently fined $9500 by the Dallas Cowboys for missing a team meeting as well as missing a rehab workout. Owens has not practiced much at as well during fall camp and Bill Parcells seems to be losing his patience. When a reporter asked him if he would play a player who hasn’t practiced, he replied defiantly that no he would not and asked the reporter to rethink his question. All indications right now seem all too familiar but the difference in Dallas is the fact that Bill Parcells is the head coach.

Its Monday morning and after a 2 days of our blog being down due to some upgrades, (thanks yahoo and word press) the Maddux Sports Blog is up and running. For the first post of the week we note that Pinnacle, Mansion, and CRIS have preseason betting lines for Week 3 of the NFL practice games. Getting on these betting odds early is a way sharp players can exploit weak lines. We noted in our post about College openers a couple weeks back about picking up such lines as Miami Florida +6.5, Akron +23.5, and Tennessee +2 to name a few that Maddux grabbed, this week NFL was no different.

There are some important series this weekend, with the biggest one occurring when the Yankees venture into Fenway Park for a five game series against the Red Sox! The Bronx Bombers are 1.5 games ahead of Boston and Boston is 2.5 games out of the Wild Card. There’s a lot riding on every meeting between these two teams. Percentage wise the Yanks have the second-best road record (55.3%) in the American League, while Boston has the second best home record (67.2%). Both teams have been struggling of late, with each going 4 – 6 in their last ten games. The Red Sox and Yankees are 5- 5 against each other this season.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Koren Robinson was arrested late Tuesday night on suspicion of drunken driving and fleeing from police.
Not only is Mr Robinson in trouble with the law, but his playing career may be over. He was arrested last night on a felony charge for trying to flee police after going over 100 mph in a 55 mph zone near the teams training camp in Mankato. The former pro bowler also faces a possible 1 year suspension from the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy. The 26 year old Robinson was suspended 4 games in 2004 for violating the policy as a member of the Seahawks.

With a couple days off and no premium football picks on taps for members here is some NFL news for today.
After a 2 week holdout the 2004 Heisman Trophy winner inked a six-year contract that guarantees him $14 million late Monday night. the contact could also bring the rookie quarterback up to $51 million over the duration of the deal if all bonuses are met. Leinart was ripped by Denny Green hours before the deal went through for turning down “a more than generous” offer. Matt had his press conference today, and noted “It has been hard on me, everyone around here knew I wanted to be in camp”. I understand Leinart wanting to get a great deal, but 14 million guaranteed for the 10th pick in the draft is unheard of.
