Participants/Overview: The 2009 Big 12 Conference Basketball Tournament features all twelve of the Big 12 schools. The top 4 seeds gain entry in the tournament as well as receive a bye into the quarterfinals of the 09 march madness basketball tournament. Teams that finish 5th place or lower must go the route of winning 4 tournament games in 4 days.
Kansas thought to be too young and rebuilding shocked most pundits and earned the regular season big 12 championship. The Jayhawks finished the with 25-6 record overall and a 14-2 record in league play. This is the 9th time in the last 13 seasons that Kansas has either shared or won the regular season league outright.
The Oklahoma Sooners earned the number 2 seed and were on a crash course for a number 1 seed in the 2009 Mens NCAA Basketball tournament before player of the year candidate Blake Griffin went down with an injury. With Griffin now 100% healthy the selection committee will likely devalue the games when Blake wasn't available and a Big 12 tournament title could still get the Sooners a number 1 seed.
The surprise team of the 2008-09 Big 12 season was the Missouri Tigers. Not expected to finish higher than 6th by most publications, Missouri has built a strong resume and a 12-4 league record to earn the 3 seed. The Tigers haven't faired well on the road and all of their good wins are at home so playing on a neutral site spells doom in our opinion. Missouri has also built its resume with wins against poor competition, including a 12-0 record against sub 150 RPI teams.
Only one major conference has a team with more sub 150 RPI wins and that just happens to be the 4 seeded Kansas State Wildcats. Although the Wildcats are seeded 4th, we dont have them in the tournament and really dont have them on the bubble as well. The 4 seed actually hurst K-State as it is one less win they can add to boost their resume. Give me a win against Texas in the quarters and a win over Kansas in the semis and we can put them into the conversation of at large teams warranting a bid.
Besides the top 3 seeds locked in, Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State look to have done enough to get in and with opening round wins all 3 should be dancing.
As for our pick to win the 2009 Big 12 tourney, Kansas has the easiest road to the finals, but we will go with Oklahoma who has more to play for and their draw isn't that bad either.

Kansas Jayhawks. For the 3rd straight year Kansas took home the
Big 12 conference tournament championship. The number 2 seeded Jayhawks
beat the number 1 seeded Texas Longhorns 84-74 in the finals. In
one of the greatest games in Big 12 history, Kansas and Texas traded
punches back and forth. Kansas set a tournament record with 15 3-pointers
made while Texas wasn't far behind making 12 3 point shots. In the
end Kansas' Mario Chalmers was just too much. Chalmers scored 30
points on 10 of 15 shooting.
We knew going into the tournament that these were far and away the best teams in the big twelve and they proved it again in the NCAA tournament. Kansas would eventually win the 2009 National Title, while Texas would make it to the elite 8 before falling to the national runner up Memphis Tigers.
