2008 Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament

Printable & Viewable Bracket Link: 2008 Atlantic 10 Mens Basketball Tournament Bracket

Participants/Overview: The 2008 Atlantic Ten Tournament like most standard 12 team college basketball tournaments involves all of the twelve teams from the A-10 conference. The winner of the Atlantic 10 basketball tournament is granted entry into the 2008 Mens basketball tournament during March Madness. Teams are seeded according to conference play and the top 4 records are awarded a bye into the Quarterfinals meaning teams seeded 5 or higher must win 4 games in 4 days to win the tournament championship.

As of March 1st, unlike in previous years the Atlantic Ten is one of the stronger conferences from top to bottom. Xavier, Massachusetts, and St. Joe's are all legitimate prospects for at large bids. After those 3, there is a log jam with Rhode Island likely the next best candidate for an at large bid. After starting off the non conference season red hot and making the top 25, the Rams have faltered down the stretch and are now likely looking from the outside, in terms of an at large bid. Unless something changes the last 10 days in conference play the Rams will likely need to win the A-10 tourney to be dancing.

It is not a lock that UMASS and St. Joe's are getting at-large bids and a good showing by both will be important to the selection committee. While plenty of teams are playing for their postseason tournament lives, Xavier is likely playing for a #2 seed in the tournament. Although Xavier winning the Atlantic Ten Tournament would make them deserving a #2 seed, the selection committee likes to screw the smaller conferences like the A-10 so having a good showing still might not be enough to reward a phenomenal season for Sean Miller's Musketeers.

George Washington. The number 4 seeded Colonials downed the number 3 seeded Rhode Island Rams 78-69 to earn their 3 straight entrance into the NCAA basketball tournament. In the championship game the Colonials had four double digit scorers including Carl Elliot who lead the way with 17 points. While George Washington put 78 points up on the board, it was the Colonials pressure defense that secured the victory.
