Kansas - Davidson Preview
Elite Eight
Kansas Jayhawks (1) Vs. Davidson Wildcats (10)
Sunday, March 30 @ 5:05 pm
The Kansas Jayhawks made it look easy as they defeated a tough Villanova team 72- 57 to secure an Elite Eight berth. At the half, it was 41- 22 in favor of the number one seed.
The Jayhawks mastered every shooting category, hitting 53% from the floor, 42% from downtown and 80% from the foul line. From the midpoint of the first half, they had the game in hand.
Top scorers included guards Brandon Rush with 16 points, Russell Robinson with 15 and Mario Chalmers with 14. Center Sasha Kaun, who grabbed 7 rebounds, put up 9 points. In the area of assists, Robinson notched 5 and Chalmers 4. Robinson also converted 3 of 5 from beyond the arc, while Chalmers hit 2 of 5 from downtown. Forward Darnell Jackson held onto 6 rebounds.
In this tourney, tenth seed Davidson has taken down seventh seed Gonzaga, second seed Georgetown and third seed Wisconsin. So what’s to stop them from doing the same to first seed Kansas and going to the Final Four?
Against Wisconsin, Davidson found itself in a 36-36 tie. But Davidson’s “not so secret weapon,” Stephen Curry, pumped in a plethora of points once again. This time he led all scorers with 33, securing victory for the Cats. Curry was 6 of 11 from the arc. He also had 4 steals. Guard Jason Richards was massive, amassing 13 assists and scoring 11 points. He was 3 of 8 from downtown.
The Cats hit 49% of their shots, while holding Wisconsin to a success rate of 37%. They connected on 50% of their threes for 36 points, while the Badgers hit 35% of their downtown lobs for 24 points.
Davidson has the real thing in Curry—the ultimate go-to guy.
The Jayhawks are the number one seed and deservedly so. Can 10 equal
1? We’ll see.
