2006 UCLA Bruins Basketball
UCLA Bruins March Madness Preview
Is the Magic Back in Westwood?
Coach, Ben Howland has definitely got people in Southern California
thinking Final Four again. The Bruins are an outstanding 27-6
overall and they finished up 17-4 in their conference. They
just wrapped up the Conference Tournament Championship to go
along with their Regular Season Championship and expectations
are high for Howland's club after receiving a #2 seed on Sunday.
Defense has been the key as Howland has instilled a little bit
of East Coast toughness into his West Coast team. UCLA has stifled
opponents all season, holding them to just 59.1 points a game
in a conference that is notorious for its offensive minded,
up and down scoring mentality. UCLA is a legitimate candidate
for the Final Four as their tough, hard nose, in your face defense
will cause all kinds of problems for opponents in this tournament.
I see them matching up very well with Memphis, the #1 seed in
their bracket.
Don't be surprised to see these Bruins cutting down the nets
and making it to the final four. They are also impressive in
the way they played away from home. Everyone knows how critical
the emotion of home court advantage is in college basketball
but this team was able to go 8-2 on the road, and an outstanding
12-4 ATS away from Westwood. This is a team you can make some
money on when this tournament gets going. Keep your eye on the
Bruins!
