2006 Atlantic Division Preview
Last season, the Atlantic Division saw the Rangers resurrected, the Devils hang in there and the Flyers climb to the top and then crash. Pittsburgh featured the rookie sensation Sidney Crosby and the Islanders were the poster child for mismanagement.
This season the Atlantic Division should feature hard fought games between the rival Devils and Rangers, as each vies for first place. The Flyers can be the team to beat if they can stay healthy. Pittsburgh possesses some of the finest young talent in the league, but it's doubtful that the team will see much improvement in the standings. And the Islanders are one of the most ill-prepared teams going into this new season.
Veteran Martin Brodeur is poised for another stellar year in the Jersey goal crease, while center Sidney Crosby is set to lead the young bloods of Pittsburgh. The New York Rangers' Jaromir Jagr should be a point machine once again and Philadelphia's Peter Forsberg is anticipating a healthy and extremely productive season. The New York Islanders' best player, Miroslav Satan, will continue his professional play despite what must be a frustrating situation.
Look for the division to be tight, especially when it comes to the top three teams. Surprises? Pittsburgh could pack a bigger punch than anyone anticipates.
