2006 NCAA Tournament Teams
Most Impressive NCAA Tournament Teams
Most Impressive Teams this Past Weekend:
With the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament complete, we found it necessary to take a second look and recap the most impressive showings of the first two rounds. Here's a run down of four teams that caught our eye...
Memphis:
The Tigers cashed two tickets this weekend with a pair of 16
point victories over Oral Roberts and Bucknell respectively.
Memphis was predicted to get a scare by both clubs that simply
did not happen. They took care of business and then some. Memphis
definitely looks worthy thus far of their number one seed, and
will be looking for more when they face Bradley Thursday. The
Braves better find a way to stop these red hot shooting Tigers
if they want to continue on. Unfortunately, Memphis looks like
they want this thing bad.
Florida:
The Gators came into this tournament fresh off their SEC Conference
Championship picking up right where they left off. They faced
two quality mid majors in South Alabama and Wisconsin-Milwaukee
and disposed of them quickly. Dangerous teams like Memphis and
Florida are teams that are shooting well and that is exactly
what the Gators are doing right now. They are shooting an astounding
51.1% in their last 5 games, as well as 44.3% from 3 point land.
When the shots are going down, this team is tough to beat. Florida
has great size upfront and are going to be a tough task for
the Georgetown Hoyas this Friday.
George Mason:
The Patriots took on a Michigan State team coached by Tom Izzo
that is usually very tough in March. Yet, they beat them handily
75-65. They then marched to victory over a young but very talented
North Carolina team to make it to the Sweet 16. George Mason
is a terrific story in this tournament and have a legitimate
shot at making it to the Elite 8 with a win over Wichita State,
something they can definitely do.
Bradley:
Like George Mason, Bradley played two tough opponents this past
weekend in Kansas and Pittsburgh. Kansas, even though they are
young, was playing as good as anyone in the country and they
now find themselves sitting at home after the first round. Next
up was a tough, hard nosed Pittsburgh team that couldn't keep
up with Bradley offensively. It was a great first weekend for
Bradley but they now face a very tough and determinted Memphis
team this week. I think the mountain is too high for them but
you have to congratulate them on a great run!
