Coach: Greg Robinson (1st year at Syracuse)
Team Name: Orange
2004 Record: 6-6
2004 Big East Conference Record 4-2
2004 ATS Record: 8-4
Returning Starters: 15

After fourteen years as a head coach, Paul Pasqualoni is no longer running the show at Syracuse. A 51-14 loss in last years Champs Sports Bowl ultimately sealed Pasqualoni’s fate as the Orangemen’s leader. The new man in charge is Greg Robinson. Robinson a defensive guy, named himself to be his own coordinator for the Syracuse D.

Robinson inherits a team that returns 15 starters and only losses 11 lettermen, the lowest in the league. Nine of those 15 starters are on the defensive side of the ball and that part of the team looks set. The Orange are deep at linebacker, stable in the secondary, and the defense line is probably the 2nd best in the conference.

The offense on the other hand could be a liability for the Orangemen in 2005. Syracuse has decided to go through a major transformation, to a pass orientated west coast attack

In addition to the growing pains involved in changing offensive schemes, the strength of offense is on the offensive line, and at the tailback position, in the form of senior Damien Rhodes. The wide receiver talent is marginal at best and the quarterback play has been inconsistent. Needless to say there will be growing pains in this new offense scheme.

Syracuse does have a very tough schedule and anything higher than fourth in the East would shock us, but the defense may be able to carry the Orange higher and to a bowl bid by itself.
