Coach: Dan McCarney (11th year at Iowa State)
Team Name: Cyclones
2004 Record: 7-5
2004 Big 12 Conference Record 4-4
2004 ATS Record: 7-4
Returning Starters: 14

If sophomore QB Bret Meyer continues to progress, he will be one of the Big 12’s best QB’s in 2005. Iowa St is set at running back, but Stevie Hicks will need some help from backups Scales and Coleman to help carry the load. The Cyclones are pretty deep at receiver, with the addition of former QB Aaron Flynn being converted to wide out over the summer. Overall we expect a scoring improvement for this offensive bunch.

Iowa States D-line and line backing core is solid and will be more experienced than the 2004 squad that was 35th in the nation in scoring. Even though the Cyclones lost all Big 12 Team Ellis Hobbs to the NFL draft, the secondary looks solid as a whole.

Iowa St. shared the Big 12 North title last year. The Cyclones had a chance to win the league outright in their last game of the season, but missed a chip shot field goal against Missouri. Although they missed that field goal to cost them the outright league title, it was Iowa State’s first shared title since 1912, as they were declared co-champs with Colorado. This year we are predicting an outright title and a return trip to a bowl game for the fifth time in the last 6 years.
