Rundown
In likely the last go-around for their core group, the Eagles went into the off-season expected to bring in playmakers to help out Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook.

Unfortunately, trading a fourth round pick for running back Lorenzo Booker and drafting receiver DeSean Jackson was the best the G.M. Tom Heckert could do.

Booker will only supplement Westbrook in an effort to lengthen his career. Jackson is the size of an anorexic jockey and won’t amount to much more than a part timer.

Last season Westbrook played in 15 games—the most of his career. He solidified his status as one of the league’s best backs with 1,333 rushing yards and 771 receiving. He’ll be the primary weapon on offense again.

Philadelphia cut defensive end Jevon Kearse and linebacker Takeo Spikes. Kearse only managed 12 freaky tackles in 14 games, eight starts. Spikes, however, played just 14 games and managed 86 tackles. His production will be tough to replace. Free agent acquisition Rocky Boiman is a step down.

A lack of secondary depth was addressed with the signing of former Patriot cornerback Asante Samuel. Samuel, Lito Sheppard, and Sheldon Brown now form one of the best coverage trios in the league.

Draft Analysis
The Eagles draft priorities were at receiver, offensive line, and overall depth on defense.

They didn’t have a pick until the second round—no. 47. Instead of a receiver, they selected defensive tackle Trevor Laws out of Notre Dame. Laws is a run stopper and fits well into the front line rotation.

Two picks later they took Jackson out of California. His speed and quickness adds explosiveness to the offense, but his size and durability are major concerns.

Six of their ten picks overall were spent on defense, three on offensive linemen.

Fourth round pick Jack Ikegwuonu, a cornerback out of Wisconsin, has a ton of potential but will spend the year rehabbing a knee injury.

Now that you know about the 2008 Philadelphia Eagles football team see how they stack up against the rest of the NFC East division rivals Cowboys, Giants, and Redskins.
