Rundown
The only word to describe the upcoming football season in Wisconsin will be “weird.”

Not having Brett Favre tossing the ball underhand for huge gains or jumping up and down giggling like a little girl won’t even seem like football. Aaron Rodgers has some weird mullet thing going on too.

It’s yet to be seen if Rodgers is even any good. Sure, he had one decent partial game against Dallas. Can he do it consistently for a full season? Rodgers succeeded Kyle Boller at Cal in Jeff Tedford’s quarterback-friendly system, and we’ve all seen Boller’s push for the Hall of Fame. (He’s bad.)

The rest of the roster remains relatively intact, aside from the departure of tight end Bubba Franks to the Jets. Running back Ryan Grant had a breakout season last year, running for 956 yards on just 188 carries. He’s negotiating a new contract early in camp.

The defense ranked 11th in yards allowed and 6th in points allowed last year. Developing depth on that side of the ball will be one of the Packers’ main focuses in 2008.

Draft Analysis
Al Harris, 33, and Charles Woodson, 31, form one of the best cornerback duos in the league. Adding depth to develop behind them was a draft priority, along with getting someone athletic to play outside linebacker.

Green Bay’s first round pick, wide receiver Jordy Nelson out of Kansas State, just adds to an already deep receiving corps. Second round pick Brian Brohm out of Louisville, one of the draft’s top quarterbacks, could turn out to be the steal of the entire draft at pick 56.

At pick 60 the Packers addressed their cornerback need, choosing Patrick Lee out of Auburn. Lee only started for one year at Auburn, but the Packers love his size.

No linebacker was taken. Brady Poppinga’s inability to cover tight ends could prove to be a major weakness.
