Coach: Les Miles (3rd year at LSU)
Team Name: Tigers
2006 Overall Record: 11-2
Returning Starters: 14

The question for the LSU Tigers (11-2 overall, 6- 2 SEC) is can this team, which tied for second in the SEC West last season, win the conference crown and go to the BCS National Championship game as so many are predicting they will? This is a club that last year scored 33.7 PPG (ranked 9th nationally) and held opponents to 12.6 PPG (ranked 4th nationally).

On offense there will be a new QB due to the early departure of star athlete JaMarcus Russel to the NFL. Coach Les Miles runs a Gulf Coast Offense, which is set-up by the run and then features quick passes to open lanes. Senior Matt Flynn (55% COMP, 133 YDs, 1 TD, 0 INT) may be the guy to run it. But he's had limited experience. Sophomore QB Ryan Perrilloux could also be the chosen one. Senior Jacob Hester (94 CAR, 440 YDs, 4.7 YPC, 6 TDs) and sophomore Keiland Williams (76 CAR, 436 YDs, 5.7 YPC, 5 TDs) look to be the primary runners, although senior Alley Broussard, coming off of major surgery, could be a potent force. Senior WR Early Doucet (59 REC, 772 YDs, 8 TDs) is a dynamic playmaker.

On defense, junior MLB Darry Beckwith (65 tackles, 29 solo) anchors a veteran unit, which serves as the backbone of the Tigers' fine defense. The frontline returns three, including senior DT Glenn Dorsey (64 tackles, 24 solo) and senior DE Tyson Jackson (8.5 sacks)—both fearsome players. The corners are solid, experienced players and safety positions have depth but lack experience.

On paper Virginia Tech and Florida stand between LSU and a perfect 12- 0 season. Once the QB question is answered all should be set for this team that possesses a great recruiting class, a helpful home schedule with Auburn, Florida and Arkansas visiting and a stifling defense. There's also a new and improved coaching staff. Watch out, here comes the LSU Tigers!
