Coach: Ron Prince (2nd year at Kansas State)
Team Name: Wildcats
2006 Overall Record: 7-6
Returning Starters: 15

In 2006, the Kansas State Wildcats (7- 5 overall, 4- 4 Big 12) finished 3rd in the Big 12 North and went to the Texas Bowl where they lost to Rutgers 10- 37. Last year was head coach Ron Prince's first. This year, he's brought in four new coaches, including defensive back guru Greg Burns.

Sophomore QB Josh Freeman (41% COMP, 1,780 YDs, 6 TDs, 15 INTs) will be given the ball again and this time he'll be expected to make better decisions, especially when it comes to throwing. Although he tossed 15 interceptions in his first season, he led the team to a bowl game, has come back bigger and tougher and possesses a strong arm and agile legs. The offensive line is a concern, but the Wildcats have two good running threats—senior James Johnson and sophomore Leon Patton (108 CAR, 609 YDs, 6 TDs). Senior WR Jordy Nelson (39 REC, 547 YDs, 1 TD), who was injured last season, looks to be one of the best in the conference.

While the offense was scoring 22.8 PPG, the defense was giving up 23.8 PPG. The "D" looks to transform from a 4- 3 to a 3- 4 in order to handle spread offenses. Look for All- Big 12 defensive end Ian Campbell (67 tackles, 42 solo) to move to LB and be used as a stopper, pursuer and sacker. The safety corps has senior Marcus Watts (3 INTs), a speedy, smart defender who missed the final four games in 2006 due to injury, and junior transfer Gary Chandler, who was one of the top 10 junior college players. The corner positions show solid experience and frontline looks good.

This team will live and die through Freeman. Swing games include those versus Missouri and Kansas. The club has a tough road schedule and getting into the post-season may depend upon their ability to steal one when away from home.
