Coach: June Jones (9th year at Hawaii)
Team Name: Warriors
2006 Overall Record: 11-3
Returning Starters: 14

For four out of the past five years the Hawaii Warriors (11- 3 overall, 7- 1 WAC) have played in the Hawaii Bowl. Last season, they finished second to dominant Boise State in the Western Athletic Conference. In 2007, Hawaii has the opportunity to beat Boise State, take the WAC and go to a BCS Bowl. What else would you expect the best offense in the country to do?

The Warriors air attack is rated first in the nation. QB Colt Brennan (72.6% COMP, 5,549 YDs, 58 TDs, 12 INTs), now a senior, is athletic with great mobility and a NFL arm. He's got a stable of great receivers, including junior SB Davone Bess (96 REC, 1,220 YDs, 15 TDs) and senior Jason Rivers, who caught for over 1,000 yards in 2006. The running game doesn't have a go-to guy as of yet and the offensive line returns only two starters, although numerous returning players saw a lot of action last season.

The Hawaii defense had a tough time stopping the pass, coming in 105th nationally. Perhaps the biggest help for the "D" is the addition of new defensive coordinator Greg McMackin. He'll have the team transform from a 3- 4 to a 4- 3 and put more pressure on opponent QBs. The line-backing corps is strong and experienced, with junior WLB Adam Leonard (114 tackles, 62 solo) leading the group. Two returning starters at the corners and one returning safety, all seniors, should offer better "D." Safety Jacob Patek is the leader in the secondary, which needs to develop a take no prisoners attitude.

The primary team between Hawaii and the WAC championship is the perennial champion Boise State. That contest along with the team's final game against Washington will be Hawaii's biggest challenges in 2007. Win both and they will not be on the island for bowl season.

Look for either Boise State or Hawaii having the best shot at playing in a BCS bowl game this January.
