Coach: Mack Brown (9th year at Texas)
Team Name: Longhorns
2005 Overall Record: 12-0
2005 Big 12 Conference Record 8-0
Returning Starters: 13

No doubt about it, Texas has the talent to dominate the Big 12 and win the conference championship. Running back Jamaal Charles (119 ATT, 847 YDS, 7.4 AVG, 11 TDs) is about to breakout and will take no prisoners in the process. Along with him, the Longhorns have a slew of fine, tested runners. The receiving corps returns three solid players and the front line looks tough.

The question—will Vince Young’s replacement please step into the pocket? Whoever it is—Colt McCoy or Jevan Snead—they will be taking their first-ever college snap this year. Both freshmen have talent and both may earn a part of the starting job.

While Texas scored an average of 50.2 PPG, they held opponents to 16.4 PPG, which certainly went a long way to their undefeated season and win against USC in the Rose Bowl.

The front 7 are back—ready to sack opposing QBs and stuff the run, while dynamite free safety Michael Griffin (124 tackles and 3 INTS) should have a stellar senior year roaming the secondary.

Last season, the Texas offense was fortieth in passing, second in rushing, third in total offense and first in scoring. They were also the number one team in the nation. Repeat? That’ll be tough to do. In 2006, Ohio state and Oklahoma will make or break a perfect season for the Longhorns. After that, it will be bowl time again.
