2006 Pac 10 Conference Preview
2006 Pac 10 Football Predictions
Last season half of the teams from this conference went to the post-season, including USC, which battled and lost to Texas in the national title game in the Rose Bowl. Overall, the conference was 3 for 5 in bowl contests.
For three of the past four seasons the Heisman Trophy winner has come from PAC-10 powerhouse USC. The best teams in the conference feature great, high-flying quarterbacking and powerful running attacks. The conference also usually fields some of the country’s outstanding defensive players.
Will USC top the conference again this season? Most experts say “yes.” But the Trojans, who have lost essential players, will have their hands full with California and Oregon—two of the PAC-10’s best clubs. Along with those three teams, look for UCLA to be in the bowl mix again this year, while Arizona State, a team in transition, may find itself out of the post-season entirely.
Coach Mike Stoops’ hard work at Arizona may payoff with the team finally posting a winning season, which it hasn’t done since 1998. Arizona could be this year’s conference surprise. Washington State, Oregon State, Stanford and Washington will most likely settle into the bottom of the conference.
