Coach: Jim Tressel (6th year at Ohio State)
Team Name: Buckeyes
2005 Overall Record: 10-2
2005 Big 10 Conference Record 7-1
Returning Starters: 9

Ohio State is formidable. Leading the team is senior quarterback Troy Smith (149 COMP for 237 ATT, 62.9%, 2,282 YDS, 16 TDs, 4 INTs), who makes few mistakes, can run out of trouble and possesses a strong, precise arm.

Wide receiver Ted Ginn. Jr. (51 REC, 803 YDS, 4 TDs) can be spectacular, making the right play at the right time. At tailback, Antonio Pittman (243 CAR, 1,331 YDS, 7 TDs) has speed and power, slashing past defenders. New kid, Chris Wells, brings bulk and strength for short yardage situations.

The offensive line returns a bunch of starters and will add some sophomores to the mix to create one of the best groups of front-men the Buckeyes have ever seen.

The Ohio State offense was ranked thirty-second nationally in 2005, but the defense was even stronger placing fifth in the country. The “D” allowed teams only 15.3 PPG and were first against the rush, holding clubs to under 75 yards per contest. Look for them to be tough again.

There’s a lot of talent in the defensive ranks. The front four should be dominant and the linebackers, once they figure out the correct combination, will be very good. The secondary is questionable. Dominated by sophomores, they’ll have to learn a lot quickly.

Ohio State-- National Champions? It’s certainly a possibility. Texas and Michigan will be the key to a perfect season for the Buckeyes.
