Coach: Les Miles (2nd year at LSU)
Team Name: Tigers
2005 Overall Record: 10-2
2005 SEC Conference Record 7-1
Returning Starters: 11

Last year, LSU featured a fine come from behind offense and a tenacious defense that allowed opponents only 14.2 PPG.

QB JaMarcus Russel played hurt last season until he couldn’t play at all. Back-up QB Matt Flynn stepped up for the Peach Bowl and didn’t miss a beat. This year, there’s even more depth at the QB position and Russel is healthy.

The offensive line must be rebuilt. Senior Brian Johnson, at right tackle, is the only starter back. The running crew is also unstable with Alley Broussard and Justin Vincent not fully recovered from injuries suffered last season.

The quick receiving corps is led by senior Dwayne Brown (41 REC, 710 YDS, 9 TDS). Last season, they helped make LSU one of the top scoring teams in the nation (43.4 PPG).

The defensive line, despite losing most starters, is chockfull of depth and should again be a standout this season. In 2005, they held teams to an average of 114 YPG. The secondary is sound as three starters, including free safety LaRon Landry (3 INTs), return.

The question mark is at linebacker. This year’s class, but for the talented and tough Ali Highsmith, is inexperienced.

Offense should be no problem, stopping the run and quick-outs maybe a nagging concern. Still, LSU will battle and hold its own with the best in the SEC. Undefeated? Auburn, Tennessee and Florida will have something to say about that.
