Coach: Ted Roof (4th year at Duke)
Team Name: Blue Devils
2005 Overall Record: 1-10
2005 ACC Conference Record 0-8
Returning Starters: 11

Duke won one game last season. Ranked next to last nationally in total offense and at 110 in average points scored per game (16.1), it looks like the only place for this team to go is up.

The Blue Devils are improved. They now have a starting quarterback in Zack Asack (90 COMP, 180 ATT, 966 YDS, 5 TDs, 8 INTS) and rushing and receiving threats in Justin Boyle (134 CARR, 458 YDS, 9 TDs) and Eron Riley (11 REC, 247 YDS, 2 TDs) respectively.

One big question is can the offensive line do its job? They’re must for this team to be successful.

The defense had a tough time in 2005. New player, Vince Oghobaase, who was supposed to turn things around, instead turned and tore ligaments in his right knee. With Oghobaase out, Duke saw freshman Michael Tauiliili step up. He led the team and freshman nationally with 92 tackles. Oghobaase is healthy and Tauiliili is back—good news.

The secondary returns three starters, including senior corner John Talley (5 INTS) and the front four also returns three starters.

Duke’s defense and offense are improved and that could mean more wins. The team opens against Richmond and should win. After that it will be tough. They could upset Virginia and also their final opponent North Carolina. Three wins would be a good start in the rebuilding process for the Blue Devils.
