Dan Hawkins is the Buffaloes’ new coach, and he’s presently trying to decide who will start at quarterback? The job will either go to junior Brian White or junior Bernard Jackson, neither of whom has been a starter. Spring camp saw the two virtually tied for the starting position.

At RB, junior Hugh Charles (176 carries, 842 yards, 6 TDs) offers versatility and the promise of a big year. He can run and catch, which should help whoever is at the helm. About half of the offensive line is back, which will help.

Thaddaeus Washington, a standout at MLB, returns having made 112 tackles and earned 3 sacks in 2005. He leads a solid and tough linebacking corps. The front line is almost all new and the secondary looks deep at safety. Usually, Colorado is tough on the run. Look for that tradition to continue.

The Buffaloes had a good season in 2005, but this spring they looked confused and rusty. Part of that relates to their new coach and playbook and some of it is connected to inexperience. Last year, the club had 7 wins and played in the Champs Sports Bowl. Games against Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri and Colorado State will determine their post-season fate in 2006.
