Coach: Tommy Tuberville (8th year at Auburn)
Team Name: Tigers
2005 Overall Record: 9-2
2005 SEC Conference Record 7-1
Returning Starters: 12

Last season the Auburn Tigers could score—32.2 PPG. They’ve lost a major part of their receiving squad, but they still have some upperclassmen that should fill the void.

Last year, junior quarterback Brandon Cox threw for 2,324 YDS and hit for 15 TDs. At tailback, senior Kenny Irons (5 YDS/Carry, 13 TDS), who led the SEC in rushing after seeing limited action for the first half of the season, is revved and ready to show his potential Heisman Trophy drive and speed.

The middle part of the offensive line, which has been excellent the past two seasons, is back. They will set the scoring-pace for the team.

The defense has shown a lot of turnover, including in the coaching position with seasoned professional Will Muschamp taking over as the coordinator. Marquies Gunn is the only part of the line that returns. Junior Quentin Groves (6 sacks) will start.

Senior safety Will Herring (69 tackles) converts to linebacker this season. Cornerbacks David Irons and Jonathan Wilhite should provide sound coverage, helping to insure the team keeps opponents’ scoring down.

Although the Tigers have to replenish some of their offensive line and most of their defensive line, they have plenty of talent ready to step up. This team could go undefeated and be ranked in the top 10 throughout the season. Games against LSU, Florida and Georgia will determine whether they are perfect or not.
